Dance Drama of the Samurai

This special exhibition presents a selection of traditional masks, costumes, and musical instruments that evoke the solemnity and celebratory splendor of Noh, while woodblock prints illustrate the performance on stage.
The exhibition is organized by the Portland Art Museum and curated by Maribeth Graybill, PhD, The Arlene and Harold Schnitzer Curator of Asian Art.

The following thirteen prints from The Lavenberg Collection - twelve by Tsukioka Kōgyo (1869-1927) and one triptych by Yōshū Chikanobu (1838-1912) - were selected for the exhibition.
